Mayor and Council recognized the South Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office
PROCLAMATION EXPRESSING THANKS TO AND RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SOUTH TOMS RIVER POLICE OFFICERS
WHEREAS, the members of the law enforcement agency of the Borough of South Toms River play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of our community; and
WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of the law enforcement agency of the Borough of South Toms River Police Department unceasingly provide a vital public service; and
WHEREAS, on December 1, 2013, the South Toms River Police Department responded to the area of Dover Road and Chamberlain Street in response to a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian; and
WHEREAS, the unfortunate result of the aforementioned incident resulted in the untimely death of a resident of South Toms River, and an investigation was initiated to apprehend the driver who had left the scene of the accident; and
WHEREAS, Detective William Kosh along with Detective Craig Ally of the Ocean County Prosecutor Office worked tirelessly to solve this case and bring closure for the victim’s family; and
WHEREAS, Detective Kosh, Detective Ally, along with instrumental support of Patrolman Michael Schneidt, Patrolman Brian Corvinus, Patrolman Jason Prior and Patrolman Anthony Giacinti, assisted in locating and eliminating several key suspects and vehicles, and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Timothy Meier and Chief Andrew Izatt provided a support system that was crucial in the day to day operations for a fully coordinated effort; and
WHEREAS, on January 17, 2014, Detective Kosh and Detective Ally arrested and charged a suspect with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence; and
WHEREAS, the efforts of all officers involved in this investigation far exceeds those standards normally described as exemplary.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, I, Joseph M. Champagne Jr., Mayor of the Borough of South Toms River, New Jersey hereby call upon all citizens of our community and upon all patriotic, civic, and educational organizations to observe the tireless efforts of our law enforcement community, and to join in recognition of the law enforcement officers who acted above and beyond their duties to bring this incident to justice, and to further proclaim appreciation for all past and present law enforcement officers, who, by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens of the Borough of South Toms River.
