SOUTH TOMS RIVER RECOGNIZED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS
With official notice from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection on September 10, 2014, the Borough of South Toms River is honored to be nominated for the 2014 Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award (GEEA).
The Borough provided expansive efforts to clean-up it’s waterfront area, in addition to other economic, environmental, and recreational projects for an all-encompassing sustainable environment throughout the Borough. The Borough was nominated by Save Barnegat Bay, the local, leading advocacy policy organization for the Barnegat Bay and Monmouth and Ocean County.
The Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards are the State’s premier environmental awards program for recognizing outstanding environmental performance, programs and projects in the state.
These awards honor and recognize individuals, businesses, educators, institutions, communities, youth and others who have made significant contributions to environmental protection in New Jersey. Approximately 135 entities have been recognized since the awards program was established in 2000.
Winners of the New Jersey Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards will be honored in December at an awards ceremony and reception hosted by the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
The awards program is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology, in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities
